Padstow: an ideal long weekend destination

Padstow: an ideal long weekend destination

Here is a three days itinerary to the Cornwall’s jewel

You never can go wrong with planning a few days escape to Cornwall. Every part of it is unique and worth exploring. This time I’m excited to make my way to Padstow, famous UK’s foodie destination!

Day 1

We departed London by train (approx. 3hr 40min) in the morning, arriving in Padstow just in time for a light lunch at Ci Ci’s, Paul Ainsworth’s cocktail bar located above Michelin-starred restaurant Paul Ainsworth at No6. In January 2023 it is closing for the refurbishment and will reopen in spring.

After a few cocktails we checked into Padstow Townhouse.

Situated on a quiet street in the old town of Padstow, this 18th century Townhouse offers six uniquely styled suites filled with luxurious furnishings and indulgent treats – choose your favourite and book your boutique bolthole for the picture-perfect break. Townhouse has Kitchen Pantry and honesty bar, well stocked with locally-sourced treats for afternoon nibbles and evening aperitifs.

After checking into the Townhouse have the afternoon to yourself, followed by dinner at Caffè Rojano, This mediterranean inspired restaurant serves a menu of seasonal small plates, beautiful Napoletana-style pizzas and fresh pasta dishes. Led by Head Chef Michael Probert, Caffè Rojano is a fun and relaxed restaurant right in the centre of the town.

Now, I might spoil a surprise, but there will be something waiting for you on the return to the hotel. A flask of warm and boozy hot chocolate made at Michelin starred No6.

Day 2

After spending a slow morning with a breakfast hamper of dreams at the hotel have a long walk by the seaside. Don’t forget to grab a couple of Cornish pasties for a picnic on the beach.

For the evening book Paul Ainsworth At No6. This Michelin star restaurant is located in a beautiful Georgian townhouse in the heart of Padstow. They serve modern British food with a focus on locally sourced Cornish produce. Expect this to be no less than a VERY special meal and memorable evening.

Day 3

After another relaxing morning at the Townhouse take the ferry over to a village of Rock. After a wonder on the endless beach stop for lunch at The Mariners. Paul and Emma Ainsworth relaunched The Mariners pub in Rock, Cornwall in May 2019. The 130-cover local, which looks over Cornwall’s Camel Estuary, offers pub’s classics as well as The Mariners’ specials. I personally found the best Fish & Chips in the world and will be returning here for it not once!

I’ll just leave these images here with no comments and only say, this was definitely one of my food highlights of 2022.

In the evening we returned to Padstow and due to train strikes (hello the UK 2022!) we couldn’t get a train back and opted for a quick flight from Newquay to Heathrow which took less than an hour. To sum the trip up, if you love food, Padstow in a must destination to visit in 2023 (hopefully without strikes!).
